The Power of Passion and Perseverance
The Oxford definition of grit is ", a personality trait possessed by individuals who demonstrate passion and perseverance toward a goal despite being confronted by significant obstacles and distractions." Angela Lee Duckworth speaks about grit and how it can affect your success and self-improvement. She mentions that students with more grit graduate school no matter their IQs, the people with more grit are more successful. For example, someone can have a high IQ but not a lot of grit thus they don't get the best grade, contrary to that if a person does not have the best IQ but has grit they are a lot more successful in life.
She goes on to say that there is no answer to knowing how to make people have grit but the important thing is that we know one of the secrets to success. Moreover, grit is synonymous with discipline, and the point that she shares is very important. People should follow this mindset to reach all of their goals in life. If you have discipline you will achieve anything you want. For instance, if you feel like you are tired today but you have to study for the math test you will study for it and go do it the next day. That is grit, it is not falling to your excuses, it is challenging them and getting the work you have over with so you can reach your goal.
Moreover, she talks about how we measure IQ then she asks if being successful in life depends on much more than having a high IQ score. This brought me an idea of why we measure how successful people are by how smart or how easily they can do work. Why don't we measure people's success in school by how hard and long they work? Our perspective has to change and we have to know that all that time and effort pays off in the end. A brain without work is nothing, but work done by a brain that isn't the finest is still much better than nothing at all. Finally, a step toward a disciplined life is to believe in yourself and assert your ability to succeed, that whatever you want to achieve can be done if you have faith in your ability to do it.

I absolutely agree Shada! As you stated "A brain without work is nothing, but work done by a brain that isn't the finest is still much better than nothing at all". It doesn't just come down to how smart a person is. What actually matters is how resilient you are, and how much grit you have to work towards your goals.
